Well-Child Visits/Sick VisitsIselin, NJ
When it comes to taking care of a child, regular checkups are a crucial component of keeping the child healthy. With regular appointments, we can help the child grow up healthy while also addressing any issues that arise. We offer well-child visits and sick visits that include the professional care the child needs.
While many adults only visit a physician when the situation calls for it, children need more regular care. However, children will not receive the proper or specialized care at a general physician. Thus, visiting a pediatrician is crucial for healthy development. In fact, the recommended schedule for these visits starts as follows:
- 2 – 5 days old
- 1 month
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 1 year
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 2 years
- 30 months
- 3 years
Parents/guardians may not have too much trouble making the first appointment since it is so soon after the birth. It is the following visits, especially after the first year, that parents/guardians have difficulty making. Each appointment will ask questions about different developmental milestones in the child’s life. Since infants and children experience more growth than adults, it is important to make these frequent visits.
However, by the age of 3, the child will at least need to make well-child visits once a year. From this point, the child will continue making regular appointments each year to mark progress with aging. We can also keep an eye out for any medical issues and run other tests when necessary.
Child Sick Visits
It happens to every child at some point in time, a sneeze here or a cough there. When a child begins to get sick and does not get better with rest and other home remedies, it is important to visit a pediatrician as soon as possible to prevent the problem from getting worse. We will schedule the child for the next available appointment after you call us. However, our availability will vary each time.
We specialize in interpreting a child’s pain, even when they are unable to. We will work with the child and parent/guardian to find the treatment that works for the child’s needs. We will continue to offer support or advice as the parent/guardian continues the child’s treatment. If there are any concerns or side effects of the treatment, we are here to help. While parents/guardians may consider merely visiting an urgent care, we offer the specialized care that will truly benefit the child’s overall health.
What to expect
Since each well-child visit takes place during a different point in a child’s life, some will have a different focus on specific parts of the child’s development. The main factor that you can expect at all visits is a full physical exam. If we notice any signs of issues in the child’s health, we will recommend the next steps. Early prevention is the most effective treatment method. During some visits, we will also test the child’s hearing and vision.
Since children are still developing, there is a better chance to correct the issue and help the child resume growing at a healthy rate. We will also record the height and weight of the child. At certain appointments, we may go over necessary or beneficial vaccines for the child to take. By continuing to see us for each appointment, we can apply any new developments to past results with ease to determine if there are concerns.
By making regular visits to us, the child will be more comfortable at a familiar location and more willing to talk with us. We create a warm and welcoming atmosphere to help the child relax when entering the waiting room and throughout the appointment. If there are any concerns or questions the parents/guardians have, this visit is the time to bring them up. We can answer any questions and address all concerns.
Do not be afraid to ask questions
Another reason for the well-child visits is for the parents/guardians to be able to ask as many questions as possible. We understand that parenting is not easy, especially when parents/guardians are dealing with their first child. We will also be patient with the child so that the child receives the proper care. We have the experience and methods to help children ease into these appointments and build a positive rapport with medical visits.
We can also offer support and schedule appointments anytime the child needs medical attention. Regardless of if your child has been seeing a pediatrician or not, call us and schedule an appointment today. We will help your child get on the right path toward a healthy future.
